Sevim Çelebi-Gottschlich
Sevim Çelebi-Gottschlich (born 1953 in Turkey) is a former German politician. She moved to Berlin in 1970 at age 17 and joined the Alliance 90/The Greens when it was still called the Alternative Liste. She served in the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin (the Berlin state parliament) from 1987 to 1989. In 1987 she became the first person of Turkish origin to enter a West German parliament when she joined the Berlin parliament as a member of the Alternative Liste. In a speech in April 1987, she began speaking in Turkish, but Christian Democratic Union members pounded their fists on the table and she had to stop.
