Sergio Basáñez
Sergio Basáñez, born Sergio Manuel Basañez Rodríguez on May 4, 1970 in Poza Rica, Veracruz, Mexico, is a Mexican actor. He started acting young, appearing in telenovelas while studying acting and law.
At 22, he had his first leading role in Televisa’s Sueño de Amor (1992–1993). In 1994 he moved to Miami to star in Morelia, and in 1995 he returned to Mexico for a special appearance in Marisol. In 1998 his last Televisa performances were La Usurpadora and La Mentira. He then moved to TV Azteca in 1999, where he played the leading role in Catalina y Sebastián with Silvia Navarro, followed by La Calle de las Novias (2000) and Cuando seas mía (2001), for which he won best leading actor. Cuando seas mía was a remake of Café con Aroma de Mujer, originally filmed in Colombia.
In 2003 he starred in Un Nuevo Amor with Vanessa Acosta, followed by La Heredera. Earlier, in 1997, he starred in the famous musical Aventurera and won the Herald Award. He also acted in stage plays, including El Tenorio Cómico for a long run in 2003, and in children’s plays such as Pedro el Lobo and La Bella Durmiente. From 2005 to 2006 he played a tough-but-c caring bodyguard in Amor en Custodia on TV Azteca, opposite Margarita Gralia.
