Donna is the first single by British band 10cc, released on 23 September 1972 from their album 10cc. It reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in October 1972 and stayed on the chart for 13 weeks. The song was written by Lol Creme and Kevin Godley and parodies doo-wop, with Creme singing falsetto in the chorus and Godley singing in a lower voice in the verses. The melody is similar to the Beatles’ “Oh! Darling.” It was originally meant to be a B-side to “Waterfall” and was released on Jonathan King’s UK Records label. The band even toyed with releasing it under the fake band name Doctor Father Part Two. In the US, Record World described it as a Frank Zappa-style production and noted it could be a hit there too.
