Serblias family
The Serblias family (Greek: Σερβλίας) was a Byzantine family active from the 11th to the 13th century. They served in civil administration in both the central and provincial government. In the 1090s, part of the family was related to the Spanopouloi. The surname likely comes from their origin—either Serbia (Σερβλία) or the fortress town Servia. They sometimes used the name to claim descent from the ancient Servilia gens. In a letter, John Tzetzes called Nikephoros Serblias a “descendant of the Servilian Caesars.” Some members are known from Byzantine sigillography (seals).
