Knut Guttormsen
Knut Guttormsen (1830–1900) was a Norwegian builder and architect known for building and renovating many churches. He was born on the Sigurdstøyl homestead in Morgedal, Telemark, and was confirmed at Kviteseid Church in 1845. That same year he moved to Christiania (Oslo), where an older half-brother had settled. He trained as a stonemason, bricklayer, and builder, and helped build a bridge over Sarpsfossen in Sarpsborg, where he met his wife, Sara Sofie Andersdtter Haugaskjæret. He also did work on Gamle Aker Church.
In the 1860s his family moved to Trondheim, where he received several large construction assignments. He became the construction manager for the restoration of Nidaros Cathedral and worked on many churches, including Åfjord Church, Rissa Church, Melhus Church, and Ytterøy Church.
Knut and Sara had five children: Sofus Emil Guttormsen, Richard Gotfred Guttormsen, Olav Guttormsen, Karl Guttormsen, and Olaf Marinius Guttormsen. He died in Trondheim in 1900, aged 69–70.
