Flo Hyman Award
The Flo Hyman Memorial Award was given each year from 1987 to 2004 by the Women's Sports Foundation on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. It went to a female athlete of any sport or nationality who best captured Flo Hyman’s dignity, spirit, and commitment to excellence. Flo Hyman was an American indoor volleyball player who fought for gender equality in sport and supported the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1988. She died suddenly in January 1986. The award honored both athletic performance and charitable activism, especially efforts to expand sports opportunities for all girls and women.
