Sandefjord Ice Bay

Sandefjord Ice Bay is an ice-filled bay at the head of Prydz Bay in Antarctica. It is about 46 kilometers wide and up to 46 kilometers long. The bay is bounded on the west by the Amery Ice Shelf, on the east by the Publications Ice Shelf, and to the south by the mainland. It was discovered in February 1935 by Captain Klarius Mikkelsen aboard the Norwegian whaling ship Thorshavn, sent by Lars Christensen. They named it Sandefjordbukta after Sandefjord, Norway, the center of Norway's whaling industry. The term "ice bay" indicates its icy formation and helps distinguish it from Sandefjord Bay on Coronation Island.
