Humberto Costa
Humberto Costa is a Brazilian doctor and politician from Pernambuco. He has served as a Federal Senator for Pernambuco since 2011 and was a Deputy from 1995 to 1999. He is a member of the Workers' Party and is nicknamed "Dracula." In 2004, the Federal Police ran Operation Vampire to investigate money taken from public blood banks; about 2.3 billion reais were embezzled and 17 people were arrested. Costa was named in connection with the operation, and in the Lava Jato investigations he was indicted for allegedly taking bribes in a Petrobras-Odebrecht contract, with payments tracked by nicknames, including “Dracula.”
