Sami Chouchi
Sami Chouchi (born 22 March 1993) is a Belgian retired judoka from Brussels. He began in the 73 kg class, joined the Belgian national team in 2014, and switched to the 81 kg category in 2017. In 2023 he moved up to the 90 kg class. He did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Chouchi won a silver medal at the 2018 European Championships in the 81 kg division and a bronze at the 2022 European Championships. On the IJF World Tour, he earned several podium finishes, including a gold at the 2021 Tbilisi Grand Slam and bronzes at the 2021 Tashkent, 2022 Paris, and 2022 Tel Aviv Grand Slams. He also competed in Grand Prix events such as 2018 Cancun, 2019 Tel Aviv, 2019 Tashkent, and 2023 Zagreb (90 kg).
He announced his retirement on 22 May 2025, at age 32, saying the pain wasn’t worth the effort. Chouchi was born in Brussels to a Tunisian father and Moroccan mother. He started judo at La Chênaie club in Uccle, under coach Alexandre Lespineux. He is 1.85 meters tall.
