Ritoznoj
Ritoznoj is a small settlement in northeastern Slovenia, in the foothills of the Pohorje range just north of Slovenska Bistrica. It is part of the traditional region of Styria and now lies in the Drava Statistical Region within the municipality of Slovenska Bistrica. The area covers 2.11 square kilometers and sits about 358 meters above sea level. In 2002, 210 people lived there. The settlement is best known for the local white wine called Ritoznojčan, made from the Welschriesling grape. The name comes from Slavic roots meaning “the back side of the mountain that gets warmed by the sun.” In the past, it was also known as Rytesney perg and am Ritesney; the German name was Rittersberg. The local church, dedicated to Saint Margaret, belongs to the Slovenska Bistrica parish and dates to the 17th century.
