Withielgoose
Withielgoose is a small hamlet in Cornwall, England. Its Cornish name Gwydhyel Goos means “woodland clearing.” It sits about five miles west of Bodmin and can be reached via Withielgoose Lane. The hamlet includes Withielgoose Manor and was part of the historic parish of Withiel, which had around 300 people in 1824.
Historically, Withielgoose Manor belonged to Bodmin Priory and later passed through several families, including the Branthwaytes, Bromleys, and Cosworths, before coming into the Vivian (Vyvyan) family through marriage. The Vyvyans were a prominent Cornish clan who owned nearby Trelowarren and had members in Parliament and as landowners for centuries. The manor’s church living has long been tied to the estate.
