1978 Hall of Fame Classic

The 1978 Hall of Fame Classic was a college football bowl game played on December 20, 1978, at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Iowa State Cyclones 28–12. Iowa State finished the season 8–3 and was coached by Earle Bruce, while Texas A&M finished 7–4 and was coached by Tom Wilson. Curtis Dickey of Texas A&M was the game’s MVP, rushing 34 times for 278 yards and scoring a touchdown.

Scoring by quarters:
- Iowa State: 0, 6, 6, 0
- Texas A&M: 0, 14, 0, 14

Attendance was 41,158. The game was broadcast on the Mizlou Television Network with announcers Lindsey Nelson, Don Perkins, and Howard David.

After the game, Bruce left Iowa State to coach Ohio State. The Cyclones would not return to a bowl game for 22 years, while Texas A&M would not play in a bowl again until 1981 (the Independence Bowl).
