Sam Singer
Sam Singer (August 27, 1912 – January 25, 2001) was an American animator and animation producer. He is best known as the executive producer of Adventures of Pow Wow, a cartoon that later appeared as a segment on early Captain Kangaroo episodes. He also directed The Adventures of Paddy the Pelican and produced Bucky and Pepito, Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse, and Sinbad Jr. and His Magic Belt, the last project he worked on.
Born to Abraham and Ida Singer, he was Jewish. He started his career at Walt Disney Productions before moving to other Hollywood studios in the 1930s and later relocating to Chicago in the 1940s. His first TV show was Uncle Mistletoe, which aired from 1948 to 1952. In 1956 he created Adventures of Pow Wow, which critics widely disliked and is sometimes listed among the worst TV series. Animation historian Jerry Beck called him "the Ed Wood of animation" for his low-budget and poorly reviewed work.
Singer retired after Sinbad Jr. and His Magic Belt (1966) when Hanna-Barbera’s William Hanna and Joseph Barbera took over as executive producers due to his scheduling difficulties. He died on January 25, 2001, at the age of 88.
