1953 Detroit Tigers season
The 1953 Detroit Tigers season was the team's 54th. They finished 6th in the American League with a record of 60–94, 40.5 games behind the New York Yankees. The Tigers are remembered for surrendering a 17-run inning—the most runs scored in a single inning in the Modern Era—in a 23–3 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The team played at Briggs Stadium in Detroit, Michigan. It was owned by Walter Briggs, Jr., with Charlie Gehringer as general manager and Fred Hutchinson as manager. Television broadcasts were on WWJ and radio on WJBK/WXYZ with Van Patrick and Dizzy Trout.
