Saijiki
A saijiki (歳時記) is a reference list of kigo, the seasonal words used in haiku and related poetry. Each entry explains the kigo, lists related words, and often gives example haiku. A kiyose (季寄せ) is similar, but it does not include sample poems. Modern saijiki and kiyose are organized by four seasons and New Year, with some having a seasonless section as well. Each seasonal part is divided into standard categories, usually including the season, the heavens, the earth, humanity, observances, and animals and plants, with lists of relevant kigo. In the old Japanese calendar, seasons followed a lunisolar system, with the solstices and equinoxes in the middle of a season.
