SA Sports Illustrated
SA Sports Illustrated was a monthly South African sports magazine. It was started by Richard Whittingdale in 1985, who served as owner, founder and editor. The Swimwear edition began in 1985 with Richard, and he ran the magazine until 1988. Whittingdale also helped start SA Cricketer and SA Rugby magazines in 1982, which were folded into SA Sports Illustrated later. The magazine became popular and mainly covered cricket, rugby and football, South Africa’s top sports. The Swimwear edition was a popular brand extension that featured some of the country’s top female models. In December 2012, owner Media24 announced the magazine would close due to declining revenue and circulation, with the last issue published in February 2013.
