William Hawk Cabin
William Hawk Cabin
The William Hawk Cabin is a small Pennsylvania-style log cabin in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was built between 1848 and 1852 and is located at 458 North 3rd West. It is best known as the home of William Hawk from 1852 to 1883.
Hawk is remembered for a notable trip he carried out after being sent by Samuel Brannan, a Mormon leader, to bring news from California to Independence, Missouri, via Salt Lake City, that gold had been found at Sutter's Creek.
The cabin was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1978 (reference number 78002671). It was moved about 100 feet to be closer to its original location, and restoration work began in June 2017. Interior restoration was completed in February 2019.
