Rozalind MacPhail

Rozalind MacPhail is a Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who makes folk and electronic music. She was born in Toronto and grew up on Toronto Island. She started playing the flute at 13 after her grandmother read about its asthma benefits. Today she lives in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, where she performs, works as a session musician, composes for film, and teaches.

She was the first Canadian flutist sponsored by Gemeinhardt. She studied flute performance at the University of Toronto and earned a master’s degree in flute performance from the University of Ottawa, studying with Robert Cram. She has appeared as Mystery Flute Girl with indie artists such as Yo La Tengo, Great Lake Swimmers, Constantines, and Lou Barlow. She has studied with Robert Dick as an Artist-In-Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida and was a long-term resident at the Banff Centre.
