Mon, Nagaland
Mon is a town in Nagaland, India, located in Mon District. It sits at about 26.75°N, 95.1°E and is around 655 meters (about 2,150 feet) above sea level. As of the 2011 census, Mon had a population of about 16,590 people (9,138 males and 7,452 females). The literacy rate is about 71% (men 75%, women 66%). Most residents belong to the Konyak community, with Aos, Phoms and other Naga groups also living there. Mon is known as the homeland of the Konyaks and as a center for coronations of Anghs, the traditional chiefs. It is roughly 357 km from Kohima by road via Dimapur, and about 275–280 km from Dimapur. The official language is English, and the major local language is Konyak.
