Coast is a pop song by American singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld, featuring Anderson .Paak. It was released as a single on July 29, 2022, through Republic Records. The track runs 2 minutes and 47 seconds and was written by Hailee Steinfeld, Brandon Anderson, Mikky Ekko, and Gabe Simon, with production by Koz, Gabe Simon, and Steinfeld.
This release was Steinfeld’s first new music in two years since her 2020 EP Half Written Story. The collaboration with Paak came after Steinfeld teased the song in a Core Hydration commercial and announced the release date in July 2022. The song is described as a vibey, electric guitar-backed pop tune, written in B major at 112 BPM.
Coast received positive reviews from critics. Billboard praised its breezy, more laid-back production and noted it captures the late-summer mood. Ava Manson of V complimented Steinfeld’s craft and energy. In New Zealand, the song peaked at No. 5 on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts and was certified Gold by RMNZ for 15,000 equivalent units. The music video premiered on November 11, 2022. Coast was Steinfeld’s last release before 2023’s SunKissing.
