Ronald Gilbert Howells (12 January 1927 – 29 December 2011) was a Welsh professional football goalkeeper. He was born in Ponthenri, Wales.

Howells began his senior career with Swansea Town in 1946 and made nine league appearances, debuting in February 1948 after recovering from a broken wrist. He then played for Barry Town from 1948 to 1950.

In 1950 he joined Cardiff City, where he spent seven seasons and made 155 league appearances. He had to wait until 26 December 1951 to make his Cardiff debut, a 3–0 win over his former club Swansea Town, because Iorwerth Hughes was ahead of him. After helping Cardiff win promotion, he spent five seasons in the First Division.

Howells earned two caps for Wales in 1953–54 during World Cup qualifying matches against England and Scotland. He later moved back to non-league football with Worcester City (1957–1958) before returning to the league with Chester in September 1958, where he played 80 league games over two seasons. He was released after the 1959–60 season, with reports that Chester were reluctant to cover his expenses, and he returned to Barry Town.

After retiring from football, Howells worked as a painter and decorator in his hometown Ponthenry. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 84.
