Have I Told You Lately is a romantic ballad written and performed by Van Morrison for his 1989 album Avalon Sunset. The song, produced by Morrison, was released as the lead single on June 5, 1989, with “Contacting My Angel” as the B-side. It runs about 4 minutes and 20 seconds and blends Celtic folk rock with soft rock.

The lyrics mix love and devotion, and the opening line nods to William Bell’s “I Forgot to Be Your Lover.” The track is often played at weddings and has become one of Morrison’s best-known songs. The original reached number 12 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

Have I Told You Lately has been widely covered. Rod Stewart released a live version on Unplugged...and Seated (1993) that became a major hit, reaching number five on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, and it topped the US Adult Contemporary chart for five weeks. In 1995 Morrison collaborated with The Chieftains on a live studio rendition for The Long Black Veil, which won the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

In Dutch, Clouseau released Heb ik ooit gezegd (Have I Ever Said) in 1999 as the lead single from In Stereo; it charted in Belgium and the Netherlands and was certified Gold in Belgium.

The song has appeared on numerous Morrison compilations and live releases, including a performance on A Night in San Francisco (1994). It remains a widely covered and celebrated love song, recognized for its emotional resonance and memorable melody.
