Roland Storme
Roland Storme (born 25 January 1934) is a Belgian former football defender. He grew up in Roeselare and started with his hometown club before signing for K.A.A. Gent at age 17, a move that was the second most expensive transfer in Belgian football history at the time. He played for Gent from 1954 to 1960, making 301 league appearances and scoring 15 goals. In 1958 he won the Belgian Golden Shoe and made his Belgium debut in a friendly against Switzerland, earning 10 caps and scoring no goals by 1962. After impressing in international play, he was scouted by Atletico Madrid, but Gent refused, and he joined Club Brugge in 1960. Storme played for Brugge from 1960 to 1964, then returned to Gent for the 1964-65 season. He finished his career in the Belgian lower leagues with Wervik, Eeklo, Roeselare and Doornik. He later managed K.A.A. Gent for the 1976-1977 season. In the early 1960s, the Belgian First Division was not fully professional, so Storme worked in his parents’ business and in a coal company while training with Gent.
