Callarge occidentalis
Callarge occidentalis is a butterfly found in the East Palearctic, including western China and Japan. It belongs to the browns family (Nymphalidae).
There are two forms:
- sagitta Leech: the lighter form from Chang-Yang on the middle Yangtze River.
- occidentalis Leech: the western form from Wa-su-kow, with a ground color shaded with ochre and strong dark vein-streaks; the distal areas of both wings are shaded with dark brown (fuscous).
Underside description: whitish to yellowish with dark veins, longitudinal shadows at the costal and hind margins, and faint angle-shaped markings before the margin.
Habitat and abundance: according to Leech, the usual form appears very abundant at Chang-Yang. This species occurs along the Yangtze River.
