Reply 1994 (Korean: 응답하라 1994) is a 2013 South Korean TV series and the second installment of the Reply anthology. It stars Go Ara, Jung Woo, Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Sung-kyun, Son Ho-jun, Cha Sun-woo, Min Do-hee, Sung Dong-il, and Lee Il-hwa. Set in 1994, it follows six university students who share a boarding house in Sinchon, Seoul. The story is told non-linearly, jumping between 1994 and 2013, and centers on figuring out which of the male residents becomes Na-jung’s husband. The drama weaves in real 1990s events like the rise of Seo Taiji and Boys, the Sampoong Department Store collapse, and the birth of the Korean Basketball League. The male characters are introduced by nicknames at first, with names revealed later to avoid spoilers. Director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung—who previously worked on other installments—present a standalone tale with the same coming-of-age nostalgia, not a direct prequel to Reply 1997. A novelization followed in January 2014. The soundtrack features rearranged popular 1990s songs that topped charts. Reply 1994 aired on tvN from October 18 to December 28, 2013, spanning 21 episodes, and became one of the highest-rated Korean cable dramas, with the final episode averaging about 11.5% viewership.
