Marc Morrone
Marc Morrone, born in 1960 in the Bronx, New York, is an American animal dealer, breeder, and TV/radio host. He is known for The Pet Shop with Marc Morrone on Mag Rack and Petkeeping with Marc Morrone, a show produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Old episodes of his programs still air on some stations, and a version of his show aired on the Hallmark Channel in 2011–2012. He lives with his wife and many pets.
Morrone got his first pet, a parakeet named Jinxie, at age four. By 18, his pet collection had outgrown his parents’ house. In 1978, he opened the pet store Parrots of the World with Nick Guerra in Rockville Centre, New York. The store remains in operation.
His TV career began as a guest on News 12’s The Family Pet. In 1995 he started Extra Help Pet Show, which later became Metro Pets. His work with Martha Stewart led to appearances on Martha Stewart Living starting in 1997. In 2001 Hearst Entertainment began syndicating The Pet Shop With Marc Morrone. In 2003 he got a half-hour show, Petkeeping with Marc Morrone, filmed at his store. He also contributed to Kids magazine and hosts a weekly radio program, Petkeeping, on Martha Stewart Living Radio (Sirius).
In March 2006 Morrone appeared on Mag Rack with a Video On Demand series called The Pet Shop with Marc Morrone. The show follows a similar format to Petkeeping and offers practical advice on caring for many animals. It features his pets, including Harry the scarlet macaw, Splash the ferret, and Harvey the 13-pound Flemish rabbit. The first season had 25 episodes covering topics like alternatives to dogs, house training, and aquarium care.
On August 15, 2007, burglars broke into Parrots of the World and stole 45 parrots, worth over $60,000. Morrone said the stolen birds needed special care and food and could die if stressed. None of the birds stolen were his TV pets, but many live in the store.
Morrone has written five books: Ask The Dog Keeper, Ask The Cat Keeper, Ask The Fish Keeper, and Ask The Bird Keeper (all published by Bowtie Press in 2009), and A Man For All Species (Random House, 2010).
