Dick Spotswood (born March 25, 1947, in San Francisco) is a California political writer and commentator. He writes for the Marin Independent Journal as the politics and government columnist and is the senior political correspondent for KRCB-TV (PBS Channel 22) in Rohnert Park, contributing to election coverage for many years.

A San Francisco native, he graduated from the University of San Francisco and its School of Law and is a personal injury attorney with Jacobs, Spotswood & Casper.

Spotswood served on the Mill Valley City Council from 1980 to 1992 and was mayor for three terms. He spent ten years (1982–1992) as a director of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District, representing Marin’s eleven cities. He chaired the Doyle Drive Commission in 1992–93 and previously served on the 101 Corridor Committee, with a focus on transportation issues.

He has led organizations such as the Rotary Club of Mill Valley, Mountain Play Association, Marin Forum, and the College of Marin Foundation. An independent voter, he runs a blog called Militant Centrist on marinij.com.

Spotswood has been involved with the California Planning & Conservation League and serves as secretary of the California Railroad Passengers Association.

He married Joanne Peterson Spotswood in 1973 in San Francisco. They have two adult children: Beth Spotswood, a columnist and video host for the San Francisco Chronicle, and Alex Spotswood, a product manager at Lucasfilm Animation.
