Que Alegria
Que Alegría is a jazz album by the John McLaughlin Trio, released in 1992 on Verve. It features percussionist Trilok Gurtu and bassist Dominique Di Piazza, with Kai Eckhardt playing on two tracks. The album was recorded from November 29 to December 3, 1991, at Studio Bauer in Ludwigsburg, Germany, and lasts 64 minutes and 35 seconds. John McLaughlin produced the record. In McLaughlin’s discography, it comes after Live at the Royal Festival Hall (1989) and before Time Remembered: John McLaughlin Plays Bill Evans (1993). Que Alegría reached number 5 on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart in 1992. AllMusic gave it 3 stars; reviewer Richard S. Ginell says McLaughlin sounds rejuvenated here, switching between acoustic guitar and a guitar synthesizer, with Trilok Gurtu expanding his role to create striking textures. All compositions are by John McLaughlin except where noted.
