Sporting CP Esports
Sporting CP Esports, or SCP Esports, is the esports division of Sporting Clube de Portugal, based in Lisbon. It was founded on 21 July 2016 and is led by chairman Frederico Varandas.
The team started with FIFA, and its first player, Francisco “Quinzas” Cruz, became the first Portuguese FIFAe World Cup champion. SCP Esports debuted on 31 July 2016 against VfL Wolfsburg E‑Sport, a 1–1 draw.
In September 2016 they launched the G2A Lion Games, a FIFA 17 tournament to recruit top players. In October 2016 they organized a CS:GO tournament with a €2,000 prize, but they did not form a CS:GO team.
In 2017 SCP Esports qualified for the first FIFA eWorld Cup and won its first title, the Allianz Challenge (FIFA 18), with Gonçalo Pinto. That year the Portuguese Football Federation joined esports and SCP launched a Pro Clubs team in partnership with LionHearts.
In 2019 Wendell Lira joined the club but left in 2020. In 2021 they appeared in Fortnite as part of the Pelé Championship, becoming the only Portuguese club in Fortnite. In 2023 they added Rocket League and opened the Camarote NOS eStadium, a high‑tech training facility at the Estádio de Alvalade with sponsor NOS.
Also in 2023 they partnered with Dux Gaming to compete in EA FC 24, expanding into Portugal and women’s esports. In January 2024 Olga García became the club’s first female esports athlete. In 2025 they added a third team, partnering with Williams Sim Racing to compete in Formula 1, with Nalves Alves and Luís Nogueira as their first virtual F1 drivers.
