Chief of the General Staff (Belarus)

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus is the top commander of Belarus’s armed forces and the Belarusian Ground Forces. The job also doubles as the First Deputy Minister of Defense. The Chief reports to the Minister of Defence and is based in Minsk. The post was created in 1992; the first holder was Nikolai Churkin. From 1992 to 2001 the title was Chief of the Main Staff. The current Chief is Pavel Muraveiko, in office since 23 May 2024.
