Prudence Petitpas is a Belgian comic series created by Maurice Maréchal. It follows Prudence Petitpas, an elderly lady who lives in the fictional village of Moucheron and solves crimes that the police can’t crack. The stories began in 1957 in Tintin, after a suggestion from nearby cartoonist Raymond Macherot. At first they were short tales, later turning into longer adventures. The series chose a senior heroine to stand out from other comics that usually feature younger characters.

The comics ended in 1967 so Maréchal could focus on his day job as a Spanish teacher in Verviers. In 1983 he created new stories, published in Spirou, and these ran until 1987. Writers included René Goscinny, Greg, Raymond Macherot and Mittéï. The series was translated into Dutch, Italian, German, Spanish, Albanian and Arabic.

In 2001 Prudence Petitpas was adapted into an animated TV series called Les enquêtes de Prudence Petipas (The Investigations of Prudence Petipas). It was produced by SEK Studio and Carrere Group D.A. and aired on TF1. The show had 52 half-hour episodes over two seasons, in 2001 and 2004.
