Wheelockville District
The Wheelockville District is a historic area in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, located along Mendon Street (Route 16) and Henry Street in the Wheelockville village. It covers about 10 acres and was built beginning around 1825.
The district preserves a collection of modest Federal and Greek Revival worker houses built mainly to house families of workers at the nearby Waucantuck Mill Complex. The oldest homes date to about 1825–1835, including cottages built by mill owners.
A second growth period from about 1860 to 1885 added buildings with vernacular Victorian elements, including the more ornate Italianate Wheelock House at 173 Mendon Street, which was built for a mill manager.
The district runs roughly along Mendon Street from Hecla Street to the junction with Mendon and Henry Streets, then along those two streets for about six houses.
Wheelockville District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 20, 1984. It features Greek Revival and Federal architecture and covers about 10 acres. NRHP reference number 84002923.
