Cité Aline Sitoe Diatta is a neighborhood in west-central Dakar, Senegal. It used to be called Cité Claudel. After independence it was renamed for Aline Sitoe Diatta, a local anti-colonial leader from Casamance, but many people still call it Claudel or Fann. The area houses Cheikh Anta Diop University, so there are many students. It lies just west of Medina and is bordered by the ocean along Corniche road and by Point Fann. In the early 1900s it was a military drill ground called Champ de Fann, later a sports ground. It is part of Dakar Plateau, the city center. Because it sits between the university area and the government and business center, it often sees student protests.
