Peter Cox (climatologist)

Peter Michael Cox CBE is a professor of Climate System Dynamics in the Mathematics and Statistics department at the University of Exeter and the director of the Global Systems Institute. He previously served as Science Director for Climate Change at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (until 2006) and earlier worked at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research from 1990 to 2004. Cox is known for introducing fully interactive carbon cycling into the Met Office Hadley Centre’s climate and Earth System models, which suggested strong feedback between land ecosystems and atmospheric CO2. He received the CBE in the 2025 Birthday Honours for services to science and climate modelling.
