Will Montgomery
Will Montgomery is a former American football center who played 10 seasons in the NFL. He was born on February 13, 1983, in Brunswick, Maine, and went to Centreville High School in Clifton, Virginia. He played college football at Virginia Tech, where he earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2005.
Montgomery was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL draft (234th overall). He also played for the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears. He appeared in 110 NFL games and started 75, mainly at center, with some starts at guard.
During his Redskins years, he moved from right guard to center in 2011, started all 16 games that season, then briefly played left guard before returning to center. He signed a four-year, $12 million contract with Washington in 2012 but was later released to create salary-cap space. A notable on-field moment came in 2011 when he was fined for a pile-on incident during a fumble recovery. He left the Redskins in 2014 and joined the Denver Broncos, starting the last eight games at center as the team finished strong in rushing. The Chicago Bears signed him in 2015, but he was placed on injured reserve in October.
Montgomery retired from football and, by December 2017, had lost about 80 pounds.
