Peter Cowley
Peter Cowley (30 September 1955 – November 2024) was a British tech entrepreneur, angel investor and speaker based in Cambridge. He co-founded Martlet Capital and led the European Business Angels Network (EBAN) as President, and chaired the Cambridge Angels. After being diagnosed with late-stage cancer in 2021, he supported others facing illness and wrote about his experiences.
His memoir, Public Success Private Grief, was published in April 2024 and was featured in The Times in January 2024. Cowley studied at Hymers College in Hull and earned an MA in Engineering and Computer Science from Cambridge (Fitzwilliam College). He also held Open University qualifications, ACCA credentials and received an honorary doctorate from Anglia Ruskin University in 2023.
He founded Camdata and Ept Computing (which Redgate Software bought in 2009) and invested in over 75 startups. He served on EBAN and GBAN boards, sat on the Angel CoFund Investment Committee, and was UK Angel of the Year in 2014. He helped Cambridge entrepreneurs through CAMentrepreneurs and ideaSpace, and wrote The Invested Investor (2018) and Founder to Founder (2019). His third book, co-authored with Liesbeth Blom, Public Success, Private Grief, appeared in 2024. He died in Cambridge in November 2024 at age 69.
