Weichs
Weichs is a small municipality in Bavaria, Germany, in the Dachau district. It has four main villages: Weichs, Aufhausen, Ebersbach and Fränking, plus several smaller settlements. The area features rolling hills, the Glonn river nearby, and a marshland called Weichser Moos.
Weichs shows a classic Bavarian countryside with white houses and red roofs, dairy farms, and old churches.
History at a glance: Weichs was first mentioned in the year 807. The name may come from old German words. In the late 1400s, the St. Martin church was built. A hospital was started in the 1560s. The Thirty Years’ War brought damage in the 1600s. Weichs became an independent municipality in 1818. The von Weichs castle became a monastery in the 1800s. The first small factory appeared in 1862, and a shoe factory opened in the 1920s. In 2007, Weichs celebrated 1200 years.
Today: about 3,595 people live in Weichs (as of the end of 2023). The mayor is Harald Mundl, an independent local candidate. There is a small industrial park with various firms, including electronics companies like E.E.P.D and Metronics. Agriculture remains the main industry.
Amenities and activities: you can find traditional Bavarian restaurants, plus Greek and Italian places. There are bakeries, a pharmacy, a small supermarket, a post office, and a horse-riding school. The local sports club is SV-Weichs. There is a mountain-bike park in the woods between Weichs and Fränking. Since 2012, Fränking has had an indoor soccer arena. In Fränking you can also find the Grafenstadl events hall for weddings (opened in 2021).
