Pascha Nostrum

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Pascha Nostrum, or the Easter Anthems, is a short hymn used by some Christian communities during Easter. The Latin name means “Our Passover.” Its text is a cento, made from Bible verses: 1 Corinthians 5:7–8, Romans 6:9–11, and 1 Corinthians 15:20–22. Archbishop Thomas Cranmer wrote it for Morning Prayer on Easter Day, to replace the Venite in the Church of England’s Book of Common Prayer. In Common Worship, it can be used on any day of the Easter season. It has been set to many different tunes. In the Episcopal Church, it may be used with either the traditional King James Version or a contemporary translation as the invitatory at Morning Prayer during the fifty days of Easter.
