1986 Georgia gubernatorial election

The election was held on November 4, 1986. Incumbent Governor Joe Frank Harris, a Democrat, won re-election in a landslide over Republican Guy Davis. Harris received 828,465 votes (70.51%), while Davis received 346,512 votes (29.49%).

Harris carried every county in Georgia, a feat by a Democratic gubernatorial candidate that has not been repeated through at least 2025. He also flipped every county that had previously voted Republican.

This election was the last time a Democrat won Gwinnett and Cobb counties until Stacey Abrams did so in 2018. As of 2022, Cherokee, Fayette, Oconee, Glascock, Columbia, and Lee counties had not voted for a Democratic governor since this election.
