Paerish
Paerish (stylised PÆRISH) is a French alternative/indie rock band from Paris. The current lineup is Mathias Court (guitar/vocals), Frédéric Wah (guitar), Martin Dupraz (bass) and Loïc Fouquet (drums). Former drummer Julien Louvion left in 2022. The band formed in the early 2010s when students in Paris started making music together, and they chose the name after the Jumanji character Alan Parrish.
They released their debut album Semi Finalists in 2016, driven by singles like “Undone” (2015) and “Then People Forget” (2015). Paerish toured Europe with acts such as Silversun Pickups, Sum 41, Movements and Moose Blood. In 2019 they signed with SideOneDummy Records and, produced by Will Yip, released their second album Fixed It All in 2021. The album has a darker, heavier shoegaze-influenced sound and its release was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Two b-sides, “Boy” and “Stick to Silence,” appeared in 2022.
After Louvion’s departure, Fouquet joined as drummer in late 2022, and the band recorded their third album with Will Yip in Philadelphia. You’re In Both Dreams (And You’re Scared) was released on August 18, 2023, as a 10-track album on SideOneDummy. The title comes from a dialogue moment in Mulholland Drive. Paerish’s influences include Stone Temple Pilots, David Bowie, Sum 41, the Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, the Pixies, Nirvana, Weezer, Mogwai, Queen, System of a Down and Blink-182.
