Henry Norr
Henry Norr (born 1946) is an American technology journalist and activist. He worked as a technology columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
In 2002 he wrote about Intel’s Fab 18 plant in Qiryat Gat, Israel, which exported about $1.8 billion. The piece raised concerns about land ownership from the 1948 war. Pro-Israel groups accused him of anti-Semitism; he says he is Jewish and not anti-Semitic.
Norr was fired in April 2003 after being arrested at an anti-war protest on March 20, the day after the U.S. attacked Iraq. The Chronicle suspended him without pay, then fired him, saying he falsified his time card. Some newsroom colleagues said the firing was also linked to his political activity, including Palestine solidarity work.
In 2004 he reached a financial settlement with the Chronicle that included retirement and health benefits and a published statement. California law bars firing for political activity. Norr said the settlement would let him continue freelance writing. He now writes for MacInTouch, Mondoweiss, and other sites.
