Lynne Irene Spears (née Bridges) was born on May 4, 1955, in Magnolia, Mississippi. Her mother, Lilian Irene Portell, was British, and her father, Barney O’Field Bridges, was American. She has an older brother, Barry, and a sister, Sandra, who died in 2007. In July 1976, Lynne married Jamie Spears; they divorced in 2002. They have three children: Bryan (born 1977), Britney (born 1981), and Jamie Lynn (born 1991).

In 1991, Lynne moved with Britney and Jamie Lynn to New York City so Britney could attend the Professional Performing Arts School; Bryan stayed in Kentwood, Louisiana. Britney later joined The Mickey Mouse Club, and the family returned to Kentwood when the show ended. Lynne owned a day care in Kentwood and later worked as a teacher. She did not manage Britney, but she briefly worked on Britney’s fan club and website.

Lynne has written several books about her daughter. Heart to Heart (2000) is a biographical book about Britney, and A Mother’s Gift (2001) is a novel that was adapted into the ABC Family film Brave New Girl, for which Lynne was writer and executive producer. In 2008 she published the memoir Through the Storm, detailing the family’s public scrutiny in the tabloid era and Britney’s mental health challenges and Jamie Lynn’s teen pregnancy.

In 2020, Lynne appeared as a stage mom in her daughter Jamie Lynn and Chantel Jeffries’ music video for the song “Follow Me.” As of 2023, she works as an independent consultant for Rodan + Fields and as a substitute teacher in Louisiana. She is a devout Christian and has attended First Baptist Church in Kentwood; she is sometimes described as Catholic alongside Jamie Lynn and two of her granddaughters.

Lynne has five grandchildren: Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline (Britney’s sons), Maddie Briann Aldridge and Ivey Jo Watson (Jamie Lynn’s daughters), and Sophia Alexandra Spears (Bryan’s daughter). In November 2021, she requested $650,000 in legal fees from Britney’s estate related to the conservatorship case, but the matter was dropped.
