Britton Colquitt is a former American football punter who played in the NFL. He was born on March 20, 1985, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. He attended Bearden High School, where he played football, basketball and soccer.
At Tennessee, Colquitt was the starting punter from 2005 to 2007. He earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2006 and second-team All-SEC in 2007. He faced alcohol-related problems in college, including suspensions and losing his scholarship after a DUI incident in 2004.
Colquitt entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2009 with the Denver Broncos. He spent a brief period with the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad before joining the Broncos’ active roster later in 2009. He made his NFL debut in 2010 and quickly became a key contributor. In 2011 he led the NFL in punting yards with 4,783 on 101 punts. He continued as Denver’s main punter through 2015, reaching the Super Bowl in the 2013 season (a loss to Seattle) and winning Super Bowl 50 in the 2015 season.
In 2016 Colquitt left the Broncos after a pay-cut dispute and signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he played through 2018 and signed a four-year extension in 2017. He had the season’s longest punt in 2018 (79 yards). The Browns released him in 2019, and he joined the Minnesota Vikings, where he played 2019–2020 and signed a three-year extension in 2020. He was released by the Vikings in 2021.
Colquitt comes from a football family. His father, Craig Colquitt, won two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His older brother, Dustin Colquitt, was a longtime punter for the Kansas City Chiefs and also has a Super Bowl ring. His cousin Jimmy played at Tennessee and in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks in 1985.
