Otjomuise
Otjomuise is a township in the north-west of Windhoek, Namibia. The name means "place of steam" in Otjiherero. Next to it is 8ste Laan, an informal settlement along 8th Street. The City of Windhoek says the land there is for recreation, not housing, and residents on erf 4421 were evicted because their shacks were built without authorization. Despite this, the 8ste Laan community runs a gardening project that provides vegetables to Khomasdal soup kitchens. The project was started by Namibia’s founding father, Dr Sam Nujoma, to help people rely less on the government.
