New York Military Academy (NYMA) is a private, coed college-preparatory boarding and day school for grades 9–12 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. It’s one of the oldest military academies in the United States, founded in 1889 by Charles Jefferson Wright. The campus covers about 121 acres with 51 buildings, and the school’s colors are maroon and white. The motto is Toujours Prêt (Always Ready).

History in brief: NYMA started as a small cadet corps, grew through the early 20th century, and survived a major fire in 1910. Girls were first admitted in 1975. The school peaked in enrollment in the 1960s but faced long-term financial problems and declining numbers, nearly closing in 2010. In 2015, NYMA filed for bankruptcy and was sold to a nonprofit led by Vincent Mo; it reopened later that year with a smaller student body and gradually rebuilt.

Academics and programs: NYMA now serves grades 9–12. The school formerly had a prominent JROTC program, which is no longer active. Cadets take classes, participate in leadership activities, and follow an honor code. Graduation requires involvement in the school’s military program and meeting expectations for conduct and discipline.

Athletics and student life: NYMA offers many interscholastic and intramural sports and competes in leagues such as NEPSAC and HVAL. The mascot is the Knight, and teams are called the NYMA Knights. The campus supports a variety of activities and leadership programs.

Tuition and fees: Local boarding tuition is about $54,000 per year; day students pay about $29,000; international students pay about $65,640. Additional fees cover uniforms, books, cadet gear, health insurance, and other items.

Affiliation and location: NYMA is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA) and affiliated with NAIS and NYSAIS. It is located at 78 Academy Ave, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520, United States. Website: nyma.org.
