Ela Darling
Ela Darling is an American pornographic actress and entrepreneur who co-founded the virtual reality company VRTube.xxx. She first used virtual reality to film an erotic scene in 2014, according to The New York Times. She earned a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois and worked as a reference librarian before moving into acting and entrepreneurship. Darling often speaks at virtual reality conferences and was profiled in Allan Amato's 2016 book Slip: Naked in Your Own Words. She launched VRTUBE.XXX in 2014 and is seen as a pioneer in VR erotica, an industry once forecast to reach $1 billion by 2020. In 2016 she received the Free Speech Coalition Positive Image Award. At SXSW 2016, The Guardian quoted her about patent holders blocking teledildonic technology. In October 2017 her comments on how sex robots could affect the erotic film industry were widely circulated. A 2017 Rolling Stone profile described her first VR filming experience, and she won the 2018 XBIZ Award for Crossover Star of the Year.
