Oliver W. Mills House
Oliver W. Mills House is a historic brick house at 148 Deerfield Road in southern Windsor, Connecticut. Built about 1824 by Oliver W. Mills, whose family operated a Windsor brickyard, it is a well-preserved example of Federal-style brick architecture.
The 2-1/2 story building has a front-facing gable roof and two interior brick chimneys. The pedimented gable features a centered oval fan. The main facade is three bays wide, with the entry in the rightmost bay in a round-arch opening with a transom. Windows have brownstone sills and soldier-brick headers arranged in a decorative pattern. A two-story brick ell extends to the rear.
Inside, the main block holds three rooms plus an entry hall, with the kitchen in the ell. The stair and front parlor show the most elaborate woodwork, while other rooms are simpler. Some rooms have modern flooring over original wide boards. The house is notable for its brick construction, including brick in areas like the cellar, which is unusual for the period. The Mills family were brickmakers and farmers, and nearby Elijah Mills House reflects the same brickmaking heritage.
The Oliver W. Mills House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
