Villa Bonita
Villa Bonita is a historic seven-story apartment building on Hillcrest Road in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. It was built in 1929 and designed by local architect Frank Webster in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The building was created at a cost of about $75,000 for Sidney Ullman, Rudolph Valentino’s business manager, and it originally housed cast and crew from Hollywood. Over the years, famous residents included Errol Flynn and Francis Ford Coppola.
In 1986, Villa Bonita was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2009, it was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 956. The building is known for its detailed design, including a marble lobby floor, ornate moldings, an original chandelier, a paneled elevator, a central staircase, and a small front courtyard with an ornamental iron fence.
The 24 apartments offer dining areas, kitchens with breakfast nooks, and bathrooms. Interiors still retain many original features, such as casement windows and original cabinetry.
Alterations include the addition of a penthouse and a metal roof sign in the early 1930s and a sunroom added in 1989.
A 2016 photography book, Villa Bonita, by Pamela Littky with text by Cameron Crowe, highlights the building’s history.
Location coordinates: 34.10472°N, -118.33861°W.
