Rubén Gómez (singer)
Rubén Gómez Cotti, born April 25, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American singer and actor. He is of Puerto Rican heritage and started performing young in New York, appearing in TV commercials for McDonald’s and Roy Rogers, studying acting, and acting in the Broadway show Oliver! and the film A Time to Remember. When he was 10, he released No es una ilusión, a Spanish version of Puppy Love.
In 1987, at 13, he joined the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, replacing Robby Rosa. He sang in Spanish, English and Portuguese across seven albums and appeared in TV projects like Los Ultimos Heroes and Menudomania. He was one of the tallest Menudo members, at about 6'1". On November 22, 1990, he and Sergio Blass were arrested for drug possession in Miami and were dismissed from Menudo; Jonathan Montenegro replaced him.
Gómez began a solo career with the album Rubén Gomez, released by Arista Latin on July 29, 1997. It features acoustic sounds and romantic songs, with the first single "Me Vuelves Loco" and a video shot in Mexico City. The album includes work by composers like Alejandro Lerner and a version of "Porque Yo Te Amo" originally by Sandro.
In 1998 he recorded a duet with Angelika Dela Cruz for her album My Only Wish. In 2005 he joined Menudo: La Reunion, and later formed the duo Blacksheep with Anthony Galindo, performing mainly in Brazil. He then became the lead singer of the rock band Kings Harem, releasing four singles in 2012. He is currently part of Banda Evoluxion (Exoluxion), with Raymond Acevedo, Ralphy Rodriguez and Sergio Blass.
