Norway Cup
The Norway Cup is an international youth football tournament in Oslo, Norway. It is the world’s largest football tournament for young players.
It has been held every year since 1972, except 1976, 2020 and 2021 (COVID-19). Typically about 1,400 to 1,700 teams take part, but in 2023 a record 2,183 teams joined.
The event is for players aged 10 to 19 and is for both girls and boys. Teams come from about 50 to 60 countries. Games are played at Ekebergsletta.
The tournament is organized by Bækkelagets Sportsklub, with Pål Trælvik as general secretary.
The first women’s Norway Cup winner was Amazon Grimstad, who beat IL Vestar 2–1 after a penalty shootout.
Many players who took part in the Norway Cup later became professionals, including Erik Mykland, John Carew, Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Steffen Iversen.
Since 1972, more than 53,000 teams have participated. In recent years, around 1,600–2,200 teams join each year, helping it earn the title of the world’s biggest football tournament.
